World Cup

Yet again i sat through every game of the world cup yesterday.

portugal vs iran

starting with the portuguese, a team who have the talent and the ability to do well. but they are a team of glory hunters, christiano ronaldo plays for the cameras and himself, not for the team. he is greedy. all he tries to do is show off his fancy skills by dribbling past as many of the opponents as possible, but this doesnt work. he may be one of the most skillfull players in the tournament but he lacks the inteligence, or the dicipline, to make these skills effective. the number of times he lost the ball when taking the wrong option was frustrating. what made it worse was that he is portugals penalty taker, they got a penalty and he scored so everyone probably thinks he had a good game. he is also a diving diver, a cheating cheat and the biggest big girls blouse when it comes to tackling and heading (heading when opposed, on free headers he's good). this man frustrates me big time, if he ever signed a contractual agreement to play for the football club named tottenham hotspur i dont think i could deal with the pain this would bring to me and many other supporters at this club. if portugal continue to play at this level of sub-maximal performance for the remainder of their games then they will be eliminated from the competition very soon in the near future.

czeck republic vs ghana

i thought the czecks would breeze it. ghana won. they showed a youthfull exuberance to work at their maximal effort for the 90 minutes. close down the opponents, get tackles in, rough them up, unsettle them. they didnt give the czecks an inch of space or a moment of time on the ball, they relentlessly ran and tackled. every single player in the team was doing the work of 2 men, playing like their life depended on it. when they got the ball they passed it crisply and had good pace and zest going forward. the front men amoah and jan had pace to burn up the defence. jan got himself loads of chances, he scored one but missed loads, he is only 20 though, lacked the composure to chill out infront of goal, give the keeper, chek, a little shimmy and gloriously dispatch the ball into the onion bag, run to the corner flag, embrace his team mates and soak up the glory of his nations fans in the stadium. (jan also missed a penalty).

the czecks missed their big men up front, their 2 main forwards (koller and baros) are injured, angthing that went forward came straight back, the big man couldnt get hold of it so the midfield had a tough time trying to build any attacks. it was like trying to build a pyramid in egypt, a process that takes a number of years, it cannot be acomplished in just 90 minutes. so ghana win and this makes the final games in this group exciting and important.

a spot of reading was in order after watching these 2 games. also clean my room, a very frustrating thing when u have a plaster all the way up to your hip. for the first time since i had my leg in plaster i got really angry and the wrath ensued upon anything in the vacinity of my person. beware everyone. luckily my mum was good enough to tidy my room for me. the end

italy vs usa

final game of the day, surely italy will win. no a 1-1 draw. usa played like a team possesed by something that posseses you. they were much better than in their 1st game, causing the italians defensive problems. then italy score. a gem of a cross from the right hand side of the wet grass covering on the field of play. right footed, perfect trajectory, velocity and curl. a well timed run from gillardino, go, slow don for a second to stay on side, then attack the ball, make it yours, leap through the air, head it with those locks of hair, glance it into the bottom corner of the net. super.

usa equalise. floated in from the right, zaccardo swings his left swinger at the ball and slices the ballon into the nettage. joy for the states that are united in a part of north america.

elbow from da rossi, red card, red face for McBride. the ref was power crazy. sending off mastroeni and pope from the usa. all refs at the tournament have been rubbish, they arent thinking, as soon as they see a player fall over they presume they must have to give a free kick. they are also failing to play advantage. infuriating is the word i will use to describe it.

during this game i ate loads of crisps, something and ginger flavour. i was throwing them down my neck in a constant conveyorbelt. they were very nice, very posh. thismorning i felt a bit rough because of it.

yesterday also was the day where andy roddick played james blake in the semi-final at prestigious queens club stella artois tennis tournament extravaganza in the capital city of england, london. i watched a bit of this, blake was winning, playing superior to his inferior opponent. dancing round the court, prancing round the court, hitting roddicks serve back at 90 mph straight downt the line on the forehand, bouncing on the line for a winner, getting a pathetic clap from the crowd instead of the roar it deserved (because you have to be well mannered and quiet when watching the tennis, rubbish). i dont know who won in the end.
